The aim of the article is to demonstrate to what extent sectors with different technology intensity are rooted in the local economy of Santa Catarina and how they interact with national and global consumption and production, in order to provide precision to the essential characteristics for the current productive structure. For this, the 2018 Input-Output Matrix was used. Among the results discussed in light of available literature, one notable finding is the more pronounced local embeddedness in sectors intensive in natural resources compared to the new technologyintensive sectors. This implies a production structure strongly rooted in its agricultural past, limiting expectations for a future driven by technology-intensive sectors.
